London Rowing Club was founded in 1856, for the purpose of winning medals at Henley Royal Regatta. This is a tradition that continues to this day, most recently with London winning the Thames Cup in 2006. Since 2004 London has also run a small, but very sucessful, womens squad consisting predominantly of lightweight scullers.
London is a High Peformance Centre for Lightweight Rowing, and has been the base for many sucessful international Lightweights since the inception of the weight class.
With an unrivalled fleet of boats and professional coaching, coupled with a strong club spirit; we aim to be the club of choice for working athletes in London and the South-East.
In brief, London won the Senior one fours on Saturday in a close race, The four of Kitch, Bell, Gilfillan and Hayes just holding on ahead of Grosvenor and Lea. The Elite fours featured our top club lightweight unit, stroked by 9st 12lb rowing maestro Bart Hudson lining up against Kieran West MBE, former Cambridge Blue and Olympuc gold medallist. In the end Kieran's crew just beat the London into third place, in what was an excellent performance by the lightweights.
The London international rowers, who were not racing in Munich, had a sucessful weekend. Danny Harte, racing the GB LM4x won the Elite Quad both days, Mathilde Pauls and Sophie Hosking won the Elite Quad on Saturday, and Sophie won the Elite Double on Sunday. Stephen Feeney was second in Lightweight Elite 1x.
Lastly a special mention for Alex Woods, newly arrived at London, who stepped in to win in Elite Pairs with Diarmuid Macolgain. Diarmuid's original pairs partner, Mr Herbert Griffin, had sustained an unfortunate knee injury while cross training.
