Fours Head - 5th November

LRC athletes put in a series of good performances in what was the last sighting of GB squad members in club colours before the Olympics.
Pride of place went to the WELwt4x - Steph Cullen, Imogen Walsh, Kat Copeland, and Sophie Hosking - who won their pennant and broke the record into the bargain; and this despite a coming together with a men's crew in the last stages of the race which cost our girls time estimated by different observers at between 15 and 30 seconds.
The heavy men's 4x of Sam Townsend, Bill Lucas, Charles Cousins and Rob Williams pursued Leander's heavies and lightweights but could do no better than a close third place overall, whilst an IM1 4x of Cawthorne, Heap, Loveday, and Dunley narrowly missed out on their category win, taking 13th overall, nine seconds adrift of, yes, Leander. And further back, easing themselves into 85th overall was our 4+. Racing in a newly consolidated IM2 division, combining club and and a huge number of academic crews, this was another close second in category, to Imperial this time. We should also mention James Clarke, racing in Molesey colours, who put himself back in contention for Olympic selection with 7th overall and the E4- pennant; and Henry Pelly in another boatload of Molesey wannabes who took second in E4+, ten seconds behind Leander's world champions.
