The LRC Coaching TeamLRC is lucky to have a strong squad of coaches under Paul Reedy, many of whom are drawn from the highly successful LRC rowing squad over the past decades. The majority of the coaches have either competed or coached at international level. There is rarely an outing where a boat goes out uncoached morning or evening.Chief Coach: Paul Reedy
Reedy was a medalist at the '84 Olympics, '86 Commonwealth Games and '90 World Championships and has also won Henley. Paul has a BSc in Physiology and you can find out a bit more about him from this article from Melbourne University where he rowed and coached prior to joining LRC in 2000. Pedro FigueriaPedro has been assistant coach at LRC for eighteen months now. He has worked closely with Paul Reedy, developing the technical skills of the squad in particular focussing on the Lightweights and women. Originally from Portugal Pedro has also organised two very sucessful training camps to Aziz for the aspiring Lightweight triallists. Bob DownieBob was a member of the very sucessful London Lightweights of the late '70s and early 80s. This year marks the th anninversary of his memorable triple of HORR, Henley and World Championship wins as part of the Lightweight VIII. Bob brings a sharp technical eye and a demanding no nosense approach to coaching that is appreciated by the top flight LRC crews. Tam RichmondTam has many years experience as a top flight cox (and indeed a successful school boy rower). He now has turned his talents to being involved in coaching winning London Crews and developing our squad of coxes. Richard PhilipsRichard joined London Rowing Club in 1973 and was Captain from 1987-1989. He started coaching London crews in 1990 and since then has been influential in London's success. Richard coached the Great Britain U23 Lwt 2x in 1992 and assisted with the Great Britain Lightweight squad coaching in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Although he never got further than the semi-finals of HRR as a rower, Richard has been involved in the coaching of London's winning HRR crews since 1990. For the second year in succession Richard is responsible for coaching the London RC sculling squad and hopes to build on the tremendous sculling success of the 2002-2003 season. This included, amongst others, wins at the Four's Head, Head of the Charles Regatta, Sculler's Head, Metropolitan Regatta and Dockland's Regatta. Richard is a member of the London RC committee (click here to read his committee profile) and is also undergoing training to become a race Umpire. He has also completed five 42km Nordic ski marathons. James WaiteHaving retired from active rowing in 2006 and in between running marathons, James has been assisting Paul Reedy in managing the squad as well as providign useful coaching support. |
