The London Rowing Club “Casuals” are a very popular and dynamic group that continues to race at top veteran events throughout the year. The group is regularly represented in the Veteran A-C categories (30’s - 40’s) at the Fours, Scullers and Eights head, as well as Henley Veteran Regatta and, where possible, the Head of the Charles, Boston.
The group attracts many former LRC squad rowers, internationals, and experienced oarsmen that have taken time out of the sport, but still have the desire not only to keep very fit but also to compete. Moving on through 2012 we would like to extend our group to include more oarswomen of a similar calibre and if you're interested, please contact the club. We also welcome overseas members, whose work brings them to London, and who like being part of the London Rowing Club family and tradition.
The “Casuals” have an adapted squad programme – and it’s left up to individuals to fit this into their own routines – everyone is welcome and encouraged to make use of the gym, rowing tank and ergos.
Winter training can be a mix of gym sessions, cycling and running during the week, rowing on weekend mornings with occasional evening outings with lights. Summer training is primarily on the water, with members being down on any day, but especially Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Continuing in the spirit of London Rowing Club, the “Casuals” ethos allows everyone to learn from each other and share a vast wealth of experience. The group is growing by the season and goes from strength to strength providing a basis for everyone to still go ‘messing about on the river’, whilst secretly still hoping for an occasional medal.
